May meeting
Steve Brown showed a variety of models he was preparing for a display at a stall at Copped Hall. This is a Georgian Mansion, in grounds, on the northern edge of Epping Forest. The building is visible from the M25. The ruins of the hall are being restored by an enthusiastic group of volunteers. This is one, of many open days to bring the work to the attention of the public. Guided tours are included. The following link gives further info, coppedhalltrust.org.uk Most of those at the meeting said they would attend.
Three members had attempted the folding challenge to produce a monkey. Robin Glynn created a face complete with diagrams! Steve Brown took the word monkey in an unexpected way and produced a "wine cask". The nickname, "monkey" was given to these casks of Madeira Wine by sailors in the era of sail. Paul Hanson produced the full figure of what he described as a North African tailless mountain monkey the most difficult part of the design he said was to avoid the use of a 6th flap for the tail. Everyone then folded Robins version.

Folding challenge No. 2 - Create a model of a cartoon character.
Cartoons come in many forms; newspaper strips, comic strips, animated films. The intention is to depict a known cartoon character. We respect the copyright of the original creators of cartoons, this challenge is intended for the purpose of having fun with origami design only. Have a go, even if you do not normally create models this may be the inspiration you need.
The following web link provides useful information to on designing models.

What benefit are mini meetings?
If you are a beginner it is useful to see how other people fold models.
If you are having difficulty with a model perhaps someone else can help.
We are fortunate in the London area to have a number of enthusiasts who design models; therefore a new model appears at most meetings together with diagrams.
If you design models yourself the meetings are an opportunity to test diagrams and receive feedback on your design.
Perhaps you would like to create your own models but don't know where to start - others will be able to give you some advice.
Ultimately Mini meetings are an opportunity to meet other origami enthusiasts.
We hope to see you there.
If you have any questions please contact Steve Brown (Tel. No. is in the BOS Magazine), or send as a reply to this e-mail.
