World Origami Days

WOD posterWOD was founded by a committee of American folders to promote a grass-roots effort to spread the awareness of origami as widely as possible. The function and mission of the committee was to provide resources and serve as a clearinghouse of information and ideas to promote origami on Origami Day. The WOD committee encourages events to recognize this international celebration of origami by maintaining and updating the WOD website.

As discussion progressed, the idea grew and the Board decided to launch World Origami Day. Many of the European groups were consulted and readily agreed to the idea. Unfortunately, NOA (a Japanese origami society) already had an Origami Day in Japan (November 11). For reasons that pertain to Veterans Day (Remembrance Day in the British Commonwealth), the idea of moving World Origami Day to that date wasn't adopted. Instead, it was agreed to compromise and promote World Origami DAYS as a period starting on October 24 and ending on November 11.

Viist the World Origami Days website where you can find out more and download models suitable for teaching. If you're thinking of organising a WOD event in the UK, please gtet in touch with Nick Robinson
